Executive Team

David Taus
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Taus has over 40 years experience in the medical device, IVD, and biotech industry. He has a proven record in executive management and directing product development, sales, marketing, operations, and manufacturing in medical product regulated markets. He was the founder of Trend Scientific, an infectious disease immunodiagnostic company which was merged with Alexon Biomedical. He served as President of Alexon-Trend, Inc., which was an operating unit of Apogent Technologies. In these capacities he has developed and successfully introduced numerous medical diagnostic products. He received his B.A. in Biosciences from St. Mary’s University
Ernie Sumsion
Consulting Regulatory Director
Mr. Sumsion has a 35-year track record in management, operations and regulatory affairs in the medical device industry. He has successfully brought medical devices through the FDA approval process. While Senior Vice President, Vice President of Operations, Chief Operations Officer and Executive Vice President of Gull Laboratories, revenue there grew from $1.2 million to $17.9 million. As Vice President and Director of Operations at Alexon-Trend (Apogent Technologies), Mr. Sumsion achieved ISO9001:1994 certification for its operations. He received his M.B.A. from the University of Utah.
Roger Jensen
Chief Financial Officer
President of Centennial Capital Corporation, a financial advisory firm specializing in Mergers and Acquisitions, Corporate Finance and Reorganization, and Strategic Growth Planning. He has over 35 years senior management experience in a variety of industries including Life Science and has been engaged with GMD since 2012. From 1997-2001 he served as Executive Vice President for Apogent Technologies where he had the lead role in creating and managing Apogent’s $200 million Microbiology Group. In this and other corporate capacities he has developed and successfully introduced numerous diagnostic products into both the clinical and research markets. He has earned an MBA and CPA having started his career with KPMG (formerly Peat, Marwick) in their business advisory practice. He brings to GeneTec significant business, management and financial expertise.
Michael Wood, PhD.
Consulting Senior Director Research and Development
Dr. Wood is GMD’s consulting Senior Director of Research and Development joined and brings with him over 25 years’ experience in the molecular diagnostics industry. Prior to joining GMD Dr. Wood was Senior Director of Research and Development at DxNA, Senior Director of Research and Development at GenturaDx, a company developing sample-to-answer PCR based tests on an integrated instrument platform, until its acquisition by Luminex Corp. in 2012. Previously, Dr. Wood was Program Director at GenMark Dx, where he directed the development of IVD and research use products for infectious disease, oncology, and SNP detection. Dr. Wood has been awarded 12 US patents and has authored over 25 publications. He received his D.Phil. degree from the University of York, UK and was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Jim Maples
Director of Administration
Mr. James Maples is the Administrative Officer of GMD and operated as Chief Financial Officer for GeneTec LLC and other preceding related companies. He has lectured at Dixie State Collage on Entrepreneurship and at Utah State University has taught upper division Marketing. Mr. Maples has had a wide and varied career in commercial real estate as a broker and commercial real-estate development. He has been an owner and manager of several small businesses and has served as General Manager of a technical plastics manufacturing company and a Hologram manufacturing company. He received his B,S, in Production Management and his M.B.A. from Utah State University.
Sam Sampson
Director of Sales and Business Development
Sam has over 18 years of demonstrated experience in the Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology industries. Sam’s sales career began working for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals and Sanofi-Aventis Pharmaceuticals across many disease states. While working for these companies Mr. Sampson won numerous sales awards for including the Presidents circle which is the top sales rep in the nation. After working for large pharma he transitioned to small startups in the medical capital equipment space and bio repositories. Within these rolls Sam was instrumental in setting up national distribution partnerships and creating efficient standard operation procedures for the sales channel with in these companies. Through these leadership rolls Sam has helped these small business grow by strategically implementing more effective systems and partnerships. Sam’s focus is on Customer Acquisition, Sales and building business relationships.
Ray Cracauer
Chief of Platform Technology
Ray Cracauer serves as GMD’s Chief of PlatformTechnology. Prior to GMD Ray served as DxNA’s Chief of Platform Technology. Ray was also the founder and general manager of MTB&G, LLC, a product development consulting firm and has over 40 years of engineering, development and management experience in the medical device, IVD and biotechnology industries. For seven years, he served as Director of Engineering at Axela, a start-up company in the Toronto area. He served as Manager of Engineering for Third Wave Technologies where he developed three of the most advanced oligonucleotide production facilities in the world. Nine years were spent as Managing Partner of Aprodyne, a consulting firm which focused on instrument and process development. Clients included Becton Dickinson, Technicon, Novartis, 3M, Third Wave Technologies and Dharmacon. Mr. Cracauer holds 25 issued US patents and has numerous patents pending. He attended the University of Minnesota, studying mechanical engineering.
Bryson Despain
Marketing Services
As the Principal of Rukkus Communications, Bryson Despain serves as the Senior Marketing Lead for GMD. Bryson heads teams of creative thinkers, artisans and businesspeople to engineer sound, innovative strategies to advance the GMD brand and marketing vision. He has over 20 years of experience implementing marketing, communications and public relations for varied national and international organizations, including medical device, life science and pharmaceutical companies. Bryson has orchestrated global brands and prepared regional manufacturing firms for entry into the global market. He has formulated every phase of marketing for consumer products for all channels of distribution, including big-box retailers.
